- Biography -

Laura June Kenny was born on June 8, 1931, the worst year of the Great Depression, in Wapato, Washington. A year later her family moved to Hollywood, California looking for work in a warmer climate. However economic times were still rough and consequently she was given into the sporadic and back-and-forth care of first one, then two foster families, over the next 22 years. Both sets of foster parents showered her with love, but one of them introduced her into the glamorous Hollywood of the 1930s and 1940s, aiming her toward higher education and the desire to write. She came of age deeply influenced by all three families.

Healthy and contented in her mid seventies, Laura still values her twenty-two years as an ongoing hospice volunteer, during which time she was a Contact Person for Elisabeth Kubler-Ross in Canada for nine years. She also treasures her many years of teaching, continues to write and speak about end-of-life issues, and facilitates loss, change and grief support groups. 'All we are, in the end, is our stories,' is her firm belief. Therefore, she believes it is important that persons, as they approach their senior years, take a long look back and see what a gift life has been. Laura urges others to record their stories as she has written about her own life journey, - the valleys, the mountain-tops, and the persons she met and loved along the way. The 'human condition' is never less than riveting to contemplate, and her favorite expression is the toast, - 'To life!'

Laura now lives in Southern California with her husband of four decades, Cliff, a fellow writer. They enjoy gardening, swimming and dancing, and their nearby grandchildren are 'the light of their lives.' Laura edits memoirs for octogenarians and is transcribing her pioneer Great-grandmother’s 1874-1896 journal. Their new web site addressing end-of-life issues is now online.
